NEWS LITERACY LEVEL OF STATE ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY OF NORTH SUMATERA STUDENTS

One of the demands of the development of media technology is the importance of news literacy
knowledge and skills. Especially for the millennial generation or better known as the digital
generation which is the target of current news media technology. This study aims to measure the
level of knowledge and the level of news literacy skills of UIN North Sumatra students, using
quantitative research methods. The results showed that the level of news literacy knowledge of
UIN North Sumatera students in the less category was 64%, the sufficient category was 32% and
the good category was only 4%. As for the news literacy skills of State Islamic University of North
Sumatera students with a less category as much as 11%, a sufficient category of 53% and a good
category of only 36%.
